The 2022 L2BB cohort with a monastic from the Lumbini Buddhist Temple – Chua Lam Ty Ni in Lawrence, Massachusetts

Co-Facilitators

  • Chenxing Han

Welcome! I’m Chenxing and it’s been an honor to work with this incredible team. Dividing my time between El Cerrito, CA and Andover, MA, I’ve been awed by the possibilities of student-driven learning—and inspired to spend more time engaging with local communities.

  • Andrew Housiaux

Welcome! I’m Andy and I’m so grateful for this opportunity to engage with the tremendous diversity of local Buddhist communities. Just as important, this learning experience inspired me to reimagine my own sense of what is possible for high school education.

2022 Cohort

  • Melissa Damasceno

Hello! I’m Melissa and I’m from Houston, TX. One element of the Workshop that stuck with me was the importance of collective learning, and how centering group education can lead to a more fulfilling learning experience.

  • Taylor Dunn

Hi! I’m Taylor, and I’m from San Francisco, CA. During the Workshop, I have learned to listen more thoughtfully to other’s stories, and experimented with different forms of knowledge sharing.

  • Loulou Sloss

Hi! I’m Loulou from NYC. In the workshop, I learned about the power of respect as a driving force to learn and create thoughtfully. Visiting incredible temples and being surrounded by the most impressive group of people I have ever worked with for an entire term was the best educational experience of my life so far.

  • Haruka So

Hey! I am Haruka from Tokyo, Japan. One main takeaway I learned from the Workshop is to detach feelings of shame from ignorance, and instead replace it with motivation to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. Utilizing the lessons that I learned from the temple visits, I hope to develop more compassion for my own learning journey.

  • Lesley Tan

Hi! I’m Lesley from Irvine, California. One main takeaway is the importance of experiential learning. It’s one thing to learn the concept of dana, or generosity, from textbooks, but much more different to experience these kinds of concepts in-person in temples and implement acts of kindness in my own life.

  • Olivia Yang

Hi! I’m Olivia and I’m from Charlotte, NC. I’m really interested in the student-teacher relationship that’s created in the Workshop and I want to think more about building community models around reciprocity and relational accountability. It has been an honor to listen to the words and stories of Buddhist monastics and laypeople on this journey.
